A problem  solved!

Simply place hem of tea towel / hand towel into slot and slide upwards past the marble. Let go and the towel is gripped by the marble, unable to fall out.

To remove, simply pull towel sideways and upwards.
Simple, effective , reliable.

The towel holder requires no maintenance.
