Mr Wijesinghe did his medical training at St John's College, and Addenbrook'es Hospital, Cambridge where he was awarded the Lewin Prize in Surgery. He did his Registrar training in Yorkshire and his MD thesis at Leeds University. He was awarded the Medal of The Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland in 2001. He is a member of the Vascular Society of Great Britain and Ireland and the European Society of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery.

He is a Consultant Vascular Surgeon at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital, The Bournemouth Nuffield Hospital and the Wimborne Private Clinic.
