The border between England and Scotland is along the Solway. Just outside Gretna Green is the “first and last house” (right) contains the “old marriage room”, where the local blacksmith would marry English runaways under the more lax Scotish Law.

In more recent times the Registry office in Gretna Green (below) is the scene of many weddings.

Gretna Gateway is a modern shopping complex on the outskirts of the village (bottom right)
