Hexham is a small market town in Northumberland, presided over by the Abbey (top right), the gaol (above) stands the opposite side of the Shambles (top left), the market square to the Abbey. The battle of Hexham, during the War of the Roses, was fought just outside the town, there are interesting Roman remains in the vicinity. Most of the town centre is on a hill (above left).
