The most famous author in British history is reputed to be William Shakespeare, born in Stratford (top right). His plays are still performed regularly at the “Royal Shakespeare Theatre”.

Anne Hathaway lived in Shottery just out side Stratford at this cottage (below) until she married Shakespeare in
c1582.

Holy Trinity Church (right) overlooks the river Avon, and is the final resting place for Shakespeare, in the family tomb, an engraved stone near the altar is a simple memorial.

The canal basin provides moorings for narrow boats, (bottom left) while they wait to pass thorough the lock.

Adjacent to the basin is a statue of Shakespeare and some of his subjects (below).

“The Great Garden” (bottom right) was at the rear of “The New Place”.

The building next to Shakespeare’s birth place (right) is now a gift shop.
