The Ottomans

This is my Ottoman army. It's based on the one in the book that was suggested by Karl Heinz. A friend had given me a few spare figures; a camel with rockets, some vaguely oriental bloke with a pack and a wizard of sorts. I decided they'd make a great Mage element firing rockets. It seemed to me to suit the Ottoman / Turkish style that their wizards would be into rockets and stuff and I liked the idea of an Ottoman army. Now all I had to do was get the rest of the army. Turns out Keith also had some nice artillery pieces so I only needed the infantry and mounted. I got the lot from Barry Hill at Falcon and just bought a standard DBA Ottoman army, he also did the tents for the Stronghold. I started by painting the bowmen and was not happy with the results, I'd basically just dry brushed them and it showed. So I then started to do them properly and they came out spanking ...for me anyway. The Blade General is on a deep base as the mounted Sultan takes a fair bit of room, it is a fortunate happenstance though as he now recoils the same depth as the Shooters that support him. They took ages to paint as I'm a slow painter but the overall army comes off well. They got their first outing against Alan in May 2002 and got a tonking. After that I worked out how to use them properly; defending they are almost invunerable with the 2 Artillery, 4 Shooters and the Mage. The firepower is daunting and if opponents just sit and watch them then the Artillery can move up and blow them away, anything that comes near gets shot to bits by the Shooters.
