Panorama Villa, Spain

The Local Area

the view from the balcony, in the middleground is Cómpeta.

Cómpeta is one of the most attractive whitewashed villages in Andalucía.

Set approximately 600 metres above sea level in the foothills of the Sierra Almijara, the village remains intrinsically Spanish and has a few shops and several excellent restaurants.

The region offers beautiful scenery with mountains, an adjacent national park, clear seas, lovely beaches and many places of interest.

Nerja is about 16 km away, with beaches and pre-historic caves. Granada, Seville, Gibraltar and the busier resorts of the Costa Del Sol are all readily accessible.

Sports and leisure activities, including walking, climbing, horse-riding and golf are available nearby.

The nearest golf courses are at Torre Del Mar and Rincon de Victoria. There is a large number of high quality golf courses within easy reach near Málaga. Contact numbers for local courses or for a reliable booking agency can be supplied, if required.

Tennis courts are available to hire at the Hotel Balcon, in Cómpeta, but for keener tennis players there are excellent facilities at the Lew Hoad Tennis Centre near Mijas.

The area is ideal for walking in Autumn, Winter and Spring and 2 local companies organize guided walks.

Skiing is also possible in the Sierra Nevada in winter (about 2 hours)

The coast and beaches are only a short distance, 16 km.

Airport & Flights

Málaga is the nearest airport - 45 miles (71km) away - about 1 hour.

We do not arrange flights, but supply a helpful contact number and reference number for The Villa Owner Service, who can usually arrange flights at very reasonable prices.

Car Hire

This is necessary, since the villa is 300 metres up a steep track1 3km from the village, shops and restaurants.

A car-hire firm in Torre Del Mar has proved very reliable and gives competitive rates that include unlimited mileage and no hidden extra costs.

  • We can make arrangements with them for a car to be available at the airport or at the house.
1 The track at first sight looks dauntingly steep and rough, but it leads to several other houses, where people live year-round and it is always passable with care in dry weather. In the wet, however, it is invariably wiser to take the longer route round past Cómpeta to the top of the track, which has now been concreted and provides easier, though less entertaining access to the villa.
