Sir Thomas of the Inner Temple - whose links, at this time, are unknown.
Joseph Foster's Alumi Oxonienses - The Members of Oxford University 1500-1714, (Published 1892) lists his pedigree as:

• Crompton (Sir) Thomas, of London
• ST ALBAN HALL, matric[ulated] entry under date 20 Dec., 1577 (see below) aged 19 (as pleb.);
• BA from MERTON COLLEGE., 28 Jan 1578-9;
• MA 1 Dec., 1581;
• B&DCL 11 July 1589;
• of the Inner Temple 1581 (son of Sir Thomas);
• judge high court of admiralty 1589-1608
• chancellor of the diocese of London 1607-11
• master in chancery 1608-9
• vicar-general to the archbishop of Canterbury 1611;
• MP Boroughbridge 1597-8, Whitchurch 1601, Oxford University 1604-9;
• knighted 23 July 1603
• died in 1608-9.

The records of The Inner Temple show that this Thomas Crompton was specially admitted gratis to the Inn, on 30 May 1581, by the Parliament held on 28 May 1581 at the request of Thomas Rysden, esquire, reader in Lent 1578. However, whilst the sequence of academic achievement is plausible the date calculated for Sir Thomas' birth as 1559 (date of matriculation - age at matriculation) is more contemporary with that of Thomas Auditor Crompton, suggesting that this Sir Thomas was Auditor Crompton's cousin.
