At this time each page contains details of two weddings. A search of the 1881 census, for the Sheffield area, shows only one George Rowbottom with wife Sarah ann, but no sign of a Thomas Griffith with wife Paulina.

A Thomas Griffith was married at the same time and place and has the same volume and page number as Paulina.

Is Paulina's surname of Cariss a transcription error for Griffith?

• Paulina is a widow;
• Paulina is reputed to have married in June 1852 when aged 15 years;
• Her child, in the 1901 census, may have been named after the first child of Caleb, her youngest brother.

In the St. Catherine's Index there is Paulina Cariss who died 2nd quarter 1915, aged 76 and registered at Middlesbrough.
