John Crompton's christening cup, presented by his father Thomas. However, no parish entry for his christening has been found. His nearest siblings were christened at Bridlington. The evidence for his year of birth is to be found in John's christening cup.

Thomas Richardson and family seem to have move to the Nafferton property around 1814-1815. By 1828 Thomas, the eldest son, probably occupied one of the Bridlington properties, as witnessed by his marriage and his children's christenings documents.

On 4 November 1834 John Crompton married Ann Jefferson, the girl next door, who's family lived in Greater Houndales.

By 1840 John appeared to be farming Houndales, on his own, his father and mother having "retired" to North Street

However, in the 1841 census John was not at Houndales. Was he working at Thornholme where the family were found in the 1851 census?

The 1841 census shows that John father, Thomas richardson recorded on the census as Richardson, was also living in Nafferton but in his retirement home of North Street.

Originally, in the 1822 will of Thomas of Bridlington, John's grandfather, the properties in Bridlington and Nafferton were to be held in trust by Thomas richardson until 1832 when it was to pass to Thomas, John's eldest brother.

This census also shows that Thomas richardson and Martha's grandchild Paulina was also living in North Street. Paulina was the illegitimate child of Elizabeth Crompton, born 1811, and Thomas Luckhurst.
