Reg and I  are now based in Bilsthorpe, Nottinghamshire, but lived most of our lives in Africa and are familiar with the flora and fauna and of the  terrain.  We also know what the Rhodesian Ridgeback is capable of  within the environment of its country of first registration; their many traits and of their devotion to their owners.   During the 1980s, whilst living in Pretoria, I was chairperson of The South African Rhodesian Ridgeback Club

Our involvement with Ridgebacks spans more than 50 years.  I was brought up with a Ridgeback in the early 50s, and Reg with a Ridgeback/Doberman cross.  Reg's dog was from a registered Sire and Dam.  Those foundation years obviously made a huge impact on both of us.

We purchased our first Ridgie in 1978.  MANDIE was from a litter of 17.  She was an extremely nice bitch and it wasn't too long before she had 4 Challenge Certificates.  She won the Hound Group in Que Que and went on to be placed 4th best in show.  That year she was awarded the honour of being the highest paced sporting dog.  Sadly we lost MANDIE (call name, SALLY) in her 18th month and this was a great blow to both of us.

We had Challengers Chipo, purchased from Mylda Arsenis.  Then came Tara, (call name, Jess).

Chipo became a champion, but Jess just hated the show ring.  REKAYLAHN Indonsakusa, a lovely red wheaten bitch became a champion, then Best in Speciality in Johannesburg.  We owned CH Pleasantview Dingaan of REKAYLAHN; REKAYLAHN Blaze who was awarded 4 Challenge Certificates.   CH REKAYLAHN Joshua; CH SA & ZIM REKAYLAHN Jabulisa of Clachan which we gave to Scotty Stewart.

We registered our Kennel name REKAYLAHN when we went to live in South Africa.  We had two litters in Rhodesia (Zimbabwe) that did not bear our affix.  Names that appear in many pedigrees around the world, including the UK, are those of CHIHUTA (which means quail); MASIMBA (which means power) and NHEMA (which means bean).  The lineage of each of these can be traced back to Chipo and Tara.

Temperament is a top priority in our breeding programme.  We sometimes have puppies available to approved homes only.  Puppies will be available from August 1 2003.  Please contact us if you have any queries.
