EARLY WORK
In categorising stuff I once wrote as ‘early’, I've taken as my cut-off point my first professional commission, for The Book of the War in 2001. This isn't to say I'm ashamed of everything I wrote prior to that point (I am ashamed of some of it, but you won't be finding that material here) – just that this commission coincided with certain changes in my attitude to my writing, along with my style and approach. (I'd also just turned 30 at the time, which provides a neat chronological threshold before which I can comfortably classify everything as Juvenilia.)
The material posted to this section of the website falls into four categories:
- Two short stories written for charity Doctor Who anthologies.
- A selection of comedy sketches.
- ‘Poetry’.
- Miscellanea.
