Beverly Smyth

Beverly Smyth was born in 1814. He started out as a coal merchant in Dublin in the 1840's, his premises being based at 26, Anne Street, South. By the 1870's he had also moved into the business of being a general carrier. Based on the surge of emigration of the Irish people, he saw the great business potential of the removals business. He therefore gave up the coal business and his company concentrated on being a furniture removers and general carriers. His sons joined him in the business and he renamed it Beverly Smyth and Sons. During this period he lived in Templeogue, a small village just outside Dublin but which has now been subsumed within the city.

Beverly died in 1898 but his family continued with the business through to his great grand-daughter Emily. When Emily died in the 1950's she left it to one of the people who worked for her. The new owner retained the family name and today it is Ireland's leading household moving and storage company.
