Tooth coloured crowns are usually made of porcelain layered onto a shell of metal, to give them their strength. Unfortunately, the metal can produce a dark grey line at the neck of the tooth near the gum, which is unsightly. With advances in porcelain technology and with the use of modern bonding agents, we can now make crowns entirely out of porcelain, whilst retaining strength. The result is a beautiful restoration with translucency that makes it almost indistinguishable from a natural tooth.
