B A B A AAZ A K (1999) Michael Omer working with folk music specially recorded on location in Nigeria by the Benue State Art Council Troupe, was able to create a combination score putting together both ethnic instrumentation with original music written here in the UK. The result is music which crosses both cultures and which gives the movie it's own cultural identity. A pioneer in his own country, Ladi Ladebo, who insists that he does all his posting in London because of the high quality here, has again shot in 35mm with an eye on worldwide cinematic distribution. Plans for a 'world music' sountrack CD release are under way for 2000. Other films scored by Michael for LLP include: |
Scoring was completed on this 35 mm African feature as was sound post-production, (including ADR and multi-lingual versioning) at SOUND DESIGNERS, W1.
Widescreen and NTSC versions have also been produced for US distribution.
A powerful tale about the elite's incessant craze for power, in a world where peace, stability and individual freedom should no longer be an impossible dream, producer Ladi Ladebo adds: "This entertaining fable-like, but realistic satire concerning a young power-crazed prince, should shock all people into consciousness in order to prevent society from social disintegration."
"POWER is bound to stimulate discussions whereby everyone can examine the implications of personal prejudices, and begin to ask objective questions of those who aspire to lead the society"
The music, whilst drawing on broad African influences, primarily uses western styles in order to appeal to a wide range of world audiences.
