THE LANGUAGE COURSE

The language course will take place daily in a well-equipped conference room from 9am to 1pm with a short break for coffee/ tea, etc.

Each group consistsof between 6 -12 students

Who is the course suitable for?

The level of this course can best be described as upper intermediate, which means it is intended for adults with a reasonable knowledge of the English language.

The course is
not suitable for beginners or for those who speak the language fluently.

The standard of English spoken by the students in inevitably varies. However, experience has shown that through working in small groups and in pairs that this does not present a problem and in fact can lead to a lot of laughter!

Our students sometimes find it hard to judge their own level of English, especially if they have been out of school for some time. Therefore, we have produced a small English test which we will send to you should you be interested in this course.

The test will help both you and us to estimate your level of English, your learning needs and to identify the make-up of the course group.

Goals and Structure of the course
The goal of the course is to brush up and improve your English, to boost your self-confidence in using the language and to have lots of fun in the process. Language teaching need not be boring!

The course has a strong communicative approach - i.e. we want you to talk as much as possible in real language situations. Working in groups and in pairs allows each participant to maximise their "talking time". A number of games and role-playing situations are designed to further loosen your tongues and increase your confidence in using the language.

We will use the fact that we are in Scotland as much as possible and will discuss a number of Scottish issues. The rich Scottish culture will give us plenty to talk about. As in all language teaching you will come home with plenty of new vocabulary and useful idioms.

Every day there will be a few minutes dedicated to English Grammar. Rather than aiming for grammatical correctness at all times we want to brush up your knowledge and to tackle problems in order to give you greater confidence in talking freely.

To really get talking to the local population we will carry out a small project on a topical Scottish issue. To do this we will collect relevant information from different sources and then carry out a small-scale interview amongst the friendly population of Crieff.

At the end of the week you will be given your own personal
certificate confirming your participation in the course.
