CV Tips
As you might
expect, ChoiceTec Recruitment reviews
a great number of CVs and consults extensively with employers, and from
that experience, we have developed a list of our top tips to help you
present yourself in the most positive way in your CV.
1. Write your own CV. Professional
CV writing companies don't usually tend to do engineers and other
technical job
applicants justice.
2. Make a good visual impression. Use a good clean font, with lots of white space for readability. Format your headings and other type consistently throughout. 3. Do go over the recommended two-page limit if your qualifications and experience warrant it. Make sure there are absolutely no unnecessary words or details on your CV. 4. Keep it impersonal. Don't use "I" or "you" or other personal pronouns in your CV. 5. Give your CV to at least two other people for review, if possible. Getting a fresh point of view is usually helpful, and other people can sometimes see those last little typographical errors when you can't. 6. Eliminate unnecessary wordiness. Wordiness gives the impression you are trying to make your accomplishments seem more than they are. Let them speak for themselves. 7. Avoid photos and pictures. These are never a good idea. 8. Make certain your spelling and grammar are perfect. If you don't care enough to present a letter-perfect CV, what will a potential employer think your work must be like? 9. Describe your accomplishments specifically. You must be specific in describing your accomplishments. Potential employers will not make any assumptions about your previous experience, so you must indicate it. |
