| Home For Candidates For Employers FAQ About Us Contact Us |
Frequently Asked Questions General What is the best way to contact CTR? Our staff are available five days a week during business hours to respond to telephone inquiries and emails. Both are speedy, efficient ways to reach us. post is discouraged, primarily because of the delay in your details reaching us. Do I need to search your website for jobs or will you search for me? Once you register with us, we consider you for all positions, so you may trust that we will be working on your behalf. However, we recommend that you join our mailing list and receive a list of current vacancies to look through on your own because you may take an interest in a position in which we did not anticipate you would have an interest. Contact us at any time to let us know you are interested in a particular vacancy, and your CV (and your keenness) will be presented to the employer. Can you help me find a position abroad? ChoiceTec Recruitment fills short- and long-term contract roles, as well as permanent positions, and while the majority of our vacancies are for positions within the UK, we also receive a small number of international positions. If you are particularly interested in working abroad, please indicate that when you register with us. How often do you send out your mailing list? Our mailing list for candidates is sent out weekly. Do I need to send you a new CV every time something changes? Please send us an updated CV if you have acquired additional qualifications or employers; otherwise, updated CVs are usually unnecessary. If your contact details have changed, please call or email us so that we can reach you when we have vacancies that might interest you. Back to Top Candidate Privacy What information do you keep on file? In addition to keeping the documents that you provide, we also keep our own record of any contact we have had with you, which would include notes on telephone conversations, emails, arrangements made for job interviews, etc. Who has access to my information? Only permanent employees of ChoiceTec Recruitment have access to our database and candidate details. What information do you share with potential employers? We provide employers with a copy of your CV with the name and contact details removed. Companies may also ask that we provide your name so they may remove duplicate submissions, but this is not standard practice and would be discussed with you before the information was released. Back to Top CV Questions How do I present degrees and qualifications earned in other countries? Your best resource is the National Recognition Information Centre for the United Kingdom, which provides information for degrees and qualifications from over 180 countries. Can you help me find a position in the UK if I do not currently live in the country? If you are a UK, EEC, or EU national or have permission to work in the UK, we may be able to help you. For more information on work permits, visit http://www.workpermits.gov.uk. Are the rules for working in the UK different for countries that joined the EU recently? Yes. According to http://www.workpermits.gov.uk, anyone from Poland, Lithuania, Estonia, Latvia, Slovenia, Slovakia, Hungary and the Czech Republic must register with the Home Office under the new "Worker Registration Scheme" as soon as he or she finds work. Visit the website for further details about this scheme, and other work permit issues. Is it a problem if my CV is four pages? If you find that your CV is over two pages, consider very carefully whether there are unnecessary items listed or wordiness. Ask at least two other people to help you identify anything that could perhaps be cut or shortened. If, after this attempt to streamline your CV, you still find you have over two pages, you may be right to leave it as it is. In some fields -- and this is particularly true of engineering -- specific details about your experience and qualifications are of such benefit that it is better to offer a long, detailed CV than a short one that misses many of the strengths that would make you the ideal candidate for the job. What can I do about a gap on my CV? There are several things you can do to address a gap (including preparing to answer questions about it, when the employer asks). If you entered full-time education, travelled, or were engaged in volunteer work, make sure that information appears on your CV. If you have only a short gap, you can list work dates by years rather than month and year. Should I include personal information on my CV? No. Information such as your gender, age, marital status or sexual orientation, ethnicity, political affiliations, or health status should not be included on your CV. Back to Top |
