The Man region of the Ivory Coast supports numerous self sufficient agrarian communities.
It is a hard life for the women who must tend the aniimals, grow and process almost everything their families will eat.
While mother sees to these tasks it falls to the older children to look after the little ones.
Kente cloth is traditionally Ghanain and commands great prices particularly when gold thread is incorporated in the weaving. Cheap printed versions in the traditional colours have become popular in areas beyond the Ashanti homelands.
The child in this photograph wears this type of cloth and uses another length as a sling to carry her younger sibling.
