Lansdown Pottery is an exciting community craft workshop in the
centre of Stroud, Gloucestershire. It opened in its present home
in 1999, sharing the former Victorian Art School with a number of
other artistic and educational organisations.
The renamed Lansdown Pottery was initially established in 1981
at William Morris House, a Camphill Community, in Eastington. It
had been a part of a group of craft workshops dedicated to providing
further education and training in a creative environment for young
adults with Learning Difficulties.
On moving to Stroud we felt that it was important to continue the
educational and training aspect of our work, working with the local
community, in a much wider way. Through these aims
1 We have classes for the public.
2 Give education and training to local
colleges and schools.
3 Provide training for people with learning difficulties.
4 Offer workshop facilities for local craftspeople.
We also felt that it was equally important to have a working
pottery that produced commercially with a display of attractive
items.
