About the writer
I trained as an artist and even taught art for a time. QUITE TO THE EAST INDIES, part of a larger work on ancient voyaging, had its origin in Buddhist studies, and took off on a stopover from Australia in Bali, and a journey to Java, to Yogyakarta and the great temple mountain of Borobodur with its carved panels of scenes from ancient Java, and sailing ships with outriggers. In Bangkok I stood in front of the great bellstone in the National Museum and saw the then tranquil ruins of Ayutthaya. Then followed studies at Exeter University in linguistics and archaeology and then long days in the School of Oriental and African Studies library of London University. This voyage is only one of many still to be recorded.
In preparation is: The Maori, also from Hawaiki
