Falling Through Philosophies

Some people will say that the individual is all. The world is created by the interaction of all the individual needs and opinions that fill it. That the individual can change the world. That humanity has an affect on the universe. That what you think matters in the Grand Scheme Of It All. More than that; what you feel is everything.

Others say we are nothing. That the individual is a tiny speck in an insignificantly small group. The human race is nothing to the universe. Everything is created by chance and does not matter. We have no more ability to control the world on our own than we have in predicting the future.

Where do I stand?

The beginning: An explosion (?) somewhere long ago. Elements flood out from the centre, everything mixing, randomly creating. From chaos comes accidental structure. A universe, relatively constructed. A world is formed. The chemical reactions continue. The brain is formed. An accident. Evolution evolves, becomes sociology. Accidents of chemical compounds sometimes cause groups of like minded people to converge. Revolutions. Morality a social and evolutionary construct. Pride causes the belief that we are important. Arrogance makes us strive for a place in history when our history is meaningless. This I believe..........?

Where do I stand?

Perhaps created by chance: The mind. Something more. Something pure. Everything is predetermined? Still thoughts can touch the stars, make them seem small in comparison. Morality a construct but also a necessity. To change the world you need luck but nothing will happen unless you try. Such beauty we have made. The right to life, the right to freedom - we may be dust in the wind but do not these things still have meaning? Love: Is it not something more than chemistry?

Where do I stand?

Somewhere in between: We are nothing and have little control, yet still we are amazing. We are here by predeterminism and yet must accept responsibility for our actions. Morality creates responsibility. Thought creates personality. We aren’t elements only anymore. So we must act according to our design. Realise we are insignificant and yet seek to find perfection in our small worlds.

The world is what we see, such a small and subjective thing, and so, being small and delicate, we must protect it. Try our best to make it thrive.

The test is; to survive. Make the world alive. Try to see all that it contains, open your eyes to others eyes. It might all only last five more minutes; the moment you die the world ends (and the whole thing could go up at any time anyway.).

Be an individual and when your Armageddon comes you can greet insignificance with open arms
