Home visiting

Home visiting is an essential part of the support we provide and the recruitment and training of volunteers is an important and on-going activity.

The volunteers working with Home-Start Redbridge all live in the borough and come from diverse backgrounds. They offer much needed friendship to the parents they support and recognise the need for confidentiality.

By sharing their parenting experiences and freely giving their time and encouragement our volunteers offer:

*    time for listening and talking

*    help with the children

*    a welcome break for parents

*    practical help

*    reassurance

*    an opportunity to meet other parents or keep appointments

*    opportunities for parents to access local services

Before being matched with a suitable family, each volunteer is police checked and has to complete our preparation course.  The course usually runs for 1 day per week for 10 weeks and the content has been devised to ensure that volunteers are well prepared for home visiting.   Courses are run 3 times a year.  Unfortunately, we are unable to provide crèche facilities.

Once trained, we ask our volunteers to commit 2-4 hours per week, during office hours, for a period of at least one year to Home-Start.  In return we will provide guidance, ongoing support and out of pocket expenses.

Management Committee

Membership is open to all members of the community, from voluntary, private and statutory organisations whose aims are relevant to Home-Start.  We welcome applications from any other interested individuals wishing to support the scheme.

Members have an overall responsibility:

*    to secure the efficient management and administration of the scheme

*    to determine policy and ensure implementation of that policy

*    for financial control and accountability

*    employment and deployment of staff (including health and safety)

*    premises

*    to be aware of the constitution of the scheme

*    to contribute to and decide the policy of the scheme

*    consult and agree any changes to constitution or policy

*    attend meetings of the full committee

*    respect the confidentiality of the scheme

The Committee usually meets once every 4-6 weeks during office hours.
