REFERRALS

We operate an equal opportunities policy which states that the decision on whether support is offered to families will not be based on religion, disability, gender, sexuality or ethnic background.

Home-visiting

Most of the referrals we receive are from the statutory sector eg from health visitors - we only accept referrals that fit within our home-visiting referral criteria and have been made with the knowledge of the family.  Families are welcome to refer themselves to Home-Start Redbridge.

A local health visitor had this to say about the support we offer “I have known mothers, who have been isolated and low in mood, look forward to their Home-Start volunteer coming to see them because they have an opportunity to talk about how they are and how their week has been and also have adult company when taking the children out.”

We aim to work with the parents alongside any existing support they are receiving to enable them to achieve independence.  Our volunteers often become firm friends with their families and continue to see them as friends once the support has stopped.

Family Group

The group complements the support offered to families in their own homes and its objectives are to:

·        Give the extra support a group provides

·        Offer support to those families who find group support preferable to having a volunteer visit them at home

·        Help parents who are feeling isolated by giving them the opportunity to meet others in a stimulating environment

·        Encourage parents and children to play or to provide play experiences not readily available at home

·        offer a safe environment

·        give parents the opportunity to learn parenting skills from each other
