The North East Garrett
![]()
Evidence for yet another watchtower is shown on the 1883 reprint of the 25"=1mile Ordnance Survey map of Cardiff which, according to the plan’s notes, was first surveyed in 1879. At the corner where the North wall turns at right angle towards the East gate is the following entry: "Watch Tower (site of)". This was, presumably, one of the garrets mentioned by Rice Merrick in c.1576 (35). Presumably, this watch tower was round as the corner of the town wall itself was rounded at this spot.
