Grant's page!!

We touched in the UK on the 27 December 1999 at Heathrow. Janet's brother, Mark picked us up and we stayed with them for the two days until we were able to take occupation of our rented two bedroom maisonette. 650 pounds bought us transport in the form of a Ford Fiesta.

On the 29 December we moved into No.3 Riverside close, St. Albans. It was snowing softly but not enough to settle. We found the place small but clean and comfortable. The flat is located in a conservation area with a small park with swans and ducks within 5 mins walk. The river Ver (yes that's right) runs passed at the bottom of our garden.

One of the first things we did was attend the local Methodist Church and in the course of the year we have made some good friends and become very involved with the goings on there. I have been invited to join the Finance and Property committee and Janet has been asked to become the Chairperson of the Marlborough Road World Service and Missions Committee. She is already a teacher in the Sunday school.

Shortly after arriving, I, of course headed off to the nearest Rugby club, Old Albanians. The club had just been relocated and the new grounds had just been completed. I have never seen such fantastic facilities at club level rugby! I signed up as the assistant coach of the U15 team. They have turned out to be a good bunch and I have really enjoyed my first attempt at coaching. I completed my Level 1 coaching course and am officially recognized by the English Rugby Football Union. Hopefully Level 2 this year.

I was invited recently to turn out for the 5th team on a Saturday afternoon. After no deliberations I decided to oblige and had a 20 min run on. I have never been so unfit!!

I paid a small fortune to see The Bokke  get beaten by 50 by England at Twickenham. It was a good experience though.

It took me 2 months to find a job. A company called PCGSystems employed me as a Systems Engineer. I work from home and visit Doctor's practices in the North London area, connecting them up to the NHSnetwork. A good job and it pays well.
