He’s a 15.1 TB x Connemara dark bay gelding 12 years old. He has no health issues other than a slight stiffness behind which means he can’t cope with fast, hard work and jumping on a regular basis. He is on an occasional ‘bute’ (which I would supply) for very sore days but other than than is pretty much OK. I ride him regularly and he is still very much up for it, though not a sharp, spooky or silly horse. He’s very genuine and a confidence-giver, BUT I am not letting him go to unsupervised novices who want to learn to ride on him. He has been well-schooled and is obedient and kind. He will look after nervous riders but would take the Mickey if you were really useless and probably just wouldn’t co-operate.
So, NO one-day wonder people who think they’d like to try owning a horse because they rode for a few months in a riding school years ago and fancy getting back into it. He’s a serious horse, not a ‘pet’ – though he is to me, after and above the serious stuff.
I have had him for six marvellous years and done everything with him. He’d especially suit a hacking home with plenty of road/ hill work to keep him supple and is so good in traffic he’d be an excellent lead or escort horse for youngsters. As such, he’s absolutely marvellous for a mum with a child on or off the lead-rein to accompany anywhere. This is what he is used to.
What he can’t do is compete or school much above a little gentle work around an arena. If you have been there and done that and now want a leisurely ride that’ll walk, trot and canter a little, pop an occasional fence and pull up easily, then please think about him.
Absolutely vice-free, no kicking, biting, rearing, bolting or bucking. Snaffle mouth at all times (hunting, XC, SJ and fun rides). Perfect vet, load, clip, bath, travel, farrier, dentist, stable, fast company, children and other horses. A total schoolmaster who needs a slightly slower pace of life. Ideally, you will have your own place, plenty of experience, references and a kind attitude to horses.
On a personal note, you need to be 9st max as he's not a weight-carrier and once his saddle is on..... and a non-smoker. Sorry if that offends, but that's how it is.
Priority will be given to private homes or livery yards with high standards of maintenance - especially those with strict field-cleaning (poo-picking) regimes and good-sized stables. Absolutely NO barbed-wire and preferably no sheep netting!
If that all fits, get back in touch! I’d prefer up to 100 miles radius, but if you can offer all the above, I would consider you.
Reference/ home vetting and plenty of contact required. He is my best friend.
