I was born on 6 February, 1971 at Nguludi Hospital in Chiradzulo District of Malawi. I graduated in Agricultural Rural Development at the
University of Malawi in 1994. I started my professional life as a teacher for six months at Chipasula Secondary School where I taught Mathematics. Following, I worked in the planning department of ActionAid
Malawi where I started as a Programme Assistant in 1995 and left as head of the Programme Development Department in 1999 I then worked a Senior Programmes Officer (Research, Information and Networkin) for the
Council of Non Governmental Organisations in Malawi (CONGOMA) I then joined The Hunger Project as Deputy Country Director where I left in 2001. Before moving to the academic area I also worked as an independent consultant for Kadale
Consultants and Gil Entreprises. I got my MSc in Agricultural Economics at the University of Malawi in 2001.
The PhD thesis title "Essays on Poverty and Trade Liberalisation in Malawi' (1995-2002)".
