About Us

The Real Inspector Hound

In 1993-5 a mystery play cycle was put on at St. Andrew's church, Girton involving many local people. Some of those taking part really enjoyed the acting experience and wanted to carry on. The group was founded in August 1995 by Maxine Fay and Michele Le Bailly and the first meeting was held in October of that year.

Our early meetings were to read plays and our first production in June 1996 was When We Are Married by JB Priestley. Although we have more members now, we are still a small, friendly group, open to all. We always hold open auditions and several members have made their acting debut with the group. We also have good contacts with other local groups whose members have acted with us and vice versa.

We have always tried to choose interesting scripts, possibly outside the usual range of am-dram fare and we also try to challenge ourselves with each production. We have no interest in pantomime, but many of our plays are comedies as we enjoy doing them and audiences like them too. Although we do not have a separate section for younger members, we are open to any age and young people have acted in several productions.

We have always contributed part of the proceeds from our shows to local charities. Donations made have included:

  • Milton Childrens' Hospice
  • Mid-Anglia Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Centre
  • Girton Glebe School
