Background

For the last 12 months a working party has been preparing a new scheme for 'a face-lift to the High St.' and procuring the necessary budget.  Today (6th Oct.) the  plan were  on show at the Arts Centre.

Update

It seems the £300,000 are  to be spent mainly on the central island and new pavements for  the shops on the access road (up to Manns).

On the other side of the High St. the pavement will just  be re-tarmaced (subject to each shop agreeing).  An extract of the  plans are show below.

Cranleigh  Centre Enhancement Scheme

The bus-stop will be moved,  to opposite Knowles Lane! and the existing (stone) bus-stop would be demolished and replaced by a smaller glass one.

The island would be enlarged slightly and re-paved (to match Stocklund Sq.).  The raised circular paving (see picture) would also go across the (narrower) service rd. and 3 parking  spaces removed.

Knowle Lane entrance would have a raised 'traffic calming' portion at the entrance.

The existing flower  beds would be replaced by much smaller ones, and seating provided.

Also:

The paving outside Manns would be widened.

A new crossing placed outside the paper-shop..

Nothing changed to the post office area.

A  questionnaire form is to be provided on Waverley Council's website, but ius not available.  Watch here for news.
