JANUARY

TRETHORNE COMPETITIONS NIGHT

Clubs from all over the County compete in Call My Bluff, Ten Pin Bowling, Pool and Pub Quiz to decide who will represent the County at the South West Area activities weekend. The competitions are followed by a disco

FEBRUARY

ENTERTAINMENTS

Clubs from all over the County compete in the Entertainments competition, the format changes each year and includes Cabaret, Pantomime and Drama. Cornwall has got a strong reputation when it comes to Cabaret and has gone on to represent the South West Area at the National AGM for the past 12 years.

MARCH

SOUTH WEST AREA

The counties of the South West Area (Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Gloucestershire, Somerset and Wilstshire) hold a competitions and social weekend in March. This year the weekend will be held in Newquay. The competitions decide who will go on to represent the area at National level.

 

APRIL

WOT NOT & NATIONAL AGM

Each year about 40 members spend a week travelling to the National AGM by various forms. In 2007 the team walked from Barnstaple to Torquay. The weeks activities raise plenty of money for charity and are also good fun!
The WOT NOT ends up at the AGM, where you get to socialise with around 4000 YFC members from all over the Country. There is also competitions to take part in. Cornwall usually has a strong presence in the Entertainments competition.

 

MAY

COMPETITIONS DAY & TUG OF WAR

Cornwall has a strong reputation when it comes to Tug of War so the first YFC competition of the year is very competitive. The days competition is followed by a big barn bash. Competitions Day takes place soon after with competitions including Fencing, ATV, Stockjudging & Cookery. Teams placed first go on to represent Cornwall at National level.

June

ROYAL CORNWALL SHOW

During the 3-day show various competitions take place in the YFC marquee, each club puts together a cubicle representing that years theme. There is usually a bad taste fashion show and a 'Stars in their Eyes' contest.

JULY

COUNTY RALLY

A county competitions day with events ranging from art, handicraft, photography, practical and cookery competitions through to sports including tug-of-war

AUGUST

LAUNCESTON SUMMER BALL

One of the highlights of the Cornwall YFC calender. Launceston YFC's Summer Ball, organised by the Club Members attracts over 1000 people from across the County.

 

SEPTEMBER

SPORTS DAY & HARVEST FESTIVAL

Annual County Sports Day with Hockey, Netball, Football and Rugby.
At the Harvest Festival Service, Host Clubs decorate the church and the service offers thanks and gifts. The service is followed by a Celebration Dance

OCTOBER

SKILLS FOR LIFE

Skills for Life run all year long but as the evenings close in, SFL can offer courses that can be done inside.  Taekwondo, ball room dancing, archery...........it's up to you. For more info go to the Skills for Life page  

 

NOVEMBER

PUBLIC SPEAKING AND
AFTER DINNER SPEAKING

Cornwall has an abundance of talented public speakers which always makes these competitions a close contest. Teams from clubs all over the County compete.

DECEMBER

COUNTY CAROL SERVICE FOLLOWED BY CHRISTMAS DISCO

The start to the season is the County Carol Service at Truro Cathedral. Each year three clubs host the service which includes real live donkeys and lambs. Usually attracting 1000 people the service is popular with YFC members past as present as well as members of the public. The service is then followed by a disco which is just as well attended and offers the opportunity to wish your YFC friends from across the County a 'Happy Christmas.'
