New team for 2002 |

After racing for Raleigh/Diamondback since 1990,
Barrie will be fully supported by new sponsors in 2002, under the
banner of Helly Hansen-Giant. The team
which is well know on the British mountain bike circuit has signed Barrie. |
| "With the Commonwealth Games in Manchester in 2002
this is another important year for mountain biking, I am pleased that all the
sponsors are behind me in not only gaining selection for the mountain bike
race but producing a worthwhile result. With the Derby group ceasing
sponsoring of the mountain bike team I was unsure of my future for a while.
Now with the sponsorship from the Helly Hansen-Giant
team I can concentrate on my goal." |
| "I will be provided with a top of the range Giant
MMC and an XTC mountainbike for racing on. These will be fully Shimano XTR
equipped, with Marzocchi's new Marathon forks, Nokian tyres, FIR rims, DT
spokes, USE alien seatpost and Fizik saddle." |
| "My first outing in new colours will be at
Macclesfield Supacross on the 6th January. With the National cyclo-cross
championships the week later at Ipswich. |
| "I will be racing all the national series events as
well as the early season World Cups. I am particularly looking forward to Red
Bull Mountain Mayhem this year, we will have such a strong team. If the Giant
