National Trophy Series - Lea near Matlock 19th October 2003
It was not until Wednesday that I thought I could race at the second round of the Trophy series. In retrospect I should not have bothered! I hurt now! So what happened? Last week I was out on my mtb and had a BIG crash and landed on some rocks hurting my hip and ribs. These injuries I am still trying to recover from. As anyone will know rib injuries can take a long time to get over.
THE RACE
Like last year it was a road start before starting the twisting grass course. Surprisingly I made a good start reaching the off-road in about 7th place. The riders at the front were going just that bit too fast for me today, four opened a gap, Jody Crawforth, Dave Collins, Steven Roach and Shaun Snodden. Ian Wilkinson was just off their pace. I was riding with Stuart Bowers. The ribs did not seem too bad for most of the circuit except for the hurdle section which they were agony. We chased Ian and caught him with 3 laps remaining. Stuart and I were also caught by my team-mate Paul Oldham. We tried to split the group before the final lap. It came down to a sprint which I wanted to lead out but Ian Wilkinson somehow managed to squeeze himself by me. I took second in the group which was 6th on the day.
Today I am the worst than I have been....but the trophy series is still within reach though.
