When is a race not a race? When it is a Merida 100..... Well that is what some people think. I did the full experience of a Merida event. Camped on Saturday night, had my pasta dinner from Dennis, ate my breakfast an hour before the start. Not forgetting queuing for the toilets (the ones that weren't blocked) before the start.
The event is on bridleways and is therefore not allowed to be a race. We set off behind a car out of town at a good speed, a group formed at the front of about 10 riders. As the ride went on this was whittled down to 3. We were riding as if it was a good training ride. The course was ok but probably too much firetrack and road. I did enjoy it though.
On the way back into town after competing the longer distance we past some slower riders who had done the shorter course, one of these wanted to race to the end and as he came by he knocked my off. I cut my knee and hip up and was fuming! I jumped back up and finished with my other leaders and then waited for the idiot that had knocked me off.... I made him see the error of his ways as I waved my bleeding knee under his nose. After a few days of sticking to be bed cloths it is healing up nicely!
