My first foray into making frame baskets. Rather than using the more traditional willow or hazel I'm using cane (also known as rattan) as it's one of my favourite materials. It means I have longer lengths to weave with so there are less joins but because the rim is also made of cane I have less control over distortion. I am bracing it with dowelling but it's still not perfect, so I think my next try will be with hazel or similar. I'm really enjoying the exaggeration that can be achieved by the slight differences in length and placement of the ribs.
