Seaton Surf Shop was established in December 2003, by Simon Athey.
The main aim of the Shop is to promote surfing in and around Hartlepool.
When I first started surfing nearly 13 years ago the main focus of Hartlepool surfing was from Nor-Easter, and a couple called Mick and Audrey. Hartlepool's sort of first surf shop, before that there was a guy who had a shop near the Staincliffe hotel in Seaton Carew.
Nor-Easter was of a culture than a mere surf shop, with a great vibe and an anyone welcome atmosphere.
It also help some of the North east's best young surfers to develop, like Sam Lamiroy, sponsored by Nor-Easter Surfboards in 1992.
Back then the scene in Hartlepool was good, loads of guys all year round who got together when ever there was even just a foot of sloppy surf, just to have fun.
Since Nor-Easter closed, way back (in other words I can't remember when), the surfing scene had dwindled, to a point where if you get 6 guys in the water, at the same time, it's a crowd. Not good for a stretch of beach nearly 2 miles long, with at least 5 decent breaks, from the Marina to the River Mouth.
So the hope of Seaton Surf Shop is to regain the glory days of Hartlepool surfing, and hopefully even make it bigger.
