The Karnak and Luxor Temples

Luxor is dominated by the great Luxor Temple in the town centre and the even greater Karnak Temple a couple of miles to the north. These temples, once linked by an avenue of sphinxes, were the great religious centre of Egypt in the New Kingdom period, and each successive Pharaoh added his or her own monuments.
